Disney Expanding and Adding More Booze

Disney is planning some major expansions. The house of mouse is investing nearly $60-billion U-S over the next decade to expand and enhance its parks and resorts around the world, as well grow its cruise line capacity. Disney already has new Frozen-themed lands coming to Hong Kong Disneyland, Walt Disney Studio Park in Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort. A Zootopia themed land is also in the works for Shanghai Disney Resort. The company says it is planning to explore even more characters and franchises as it embarks on a new significant period of growth.

Disney’s footprint is already massive. It currently operates 12 parks across six different sites worldwide, welcoming roughly 100-million guests annually. To put the scale of Disney’s presence into perspective, the biggest of its  sites – Walt Disney World Resort in Florida – is twice the size of Manhattan.

Still, Disney Parks has over 400 hectares of land slated for future development, spread around at its different properties throughout the globe.

The company has huge reach on the high seas, too, with Disney Cruise Line calling on 94 ports in 40 countries.

Over the next two years, Disney Cruise Line will nearly double its capacity, adding two new ships to its fleet. Disney is also expanding further into the Asia-Pacific travel and cruise market, creating a homeport in Singapore in 2025.

Meanwhile, in the short term, visitors to the original park – Disneyland in Anaheim, California – get to enjoy newly expanded menus – that include alcoholic beverages - at three popular dining venues in the park this Fall. The new food and drinks – which includes a selection of beer, wine and specialty cocktails - have been introduced at Carnation Café on Main Street USA, River Belle Terrace in Frontierland and the Haunted Mansion inspired Café Orleans.

Disneyland only began offering alcohol in the park in 2019, with the addition of Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.

Prior to that, guests could only be served at specific locations in Disney California Adventure Park or Downtown Disney.
